He returned to England and signed for Port Vale
in June 1985. He was a regular in the side and helped the club to win promotion from the Fourth Division

. He lost his place in December 1987 and was given a free transfer in May 1988. He joined nearby non-league Northwich Victoria
as the player-assistant manager, later becoming the player-caretaker manager before retiring from the game.
