1990 | Paul McCartney Rocks | An American DJ Only Compilation released by Capitol Records and MPL in 1989 during McCartney's American tour for "Flowers In The Dirt" which was originally designed to promote the uptempo songs in McCartney's solo catalog. The original track listing, chosen by former American Rock Radio programing assistant Alan Grossman, had one song from each of McCartney's solo albums except "Pipes Of Peace", plus rarities that had been previously unreleased in the United States. Due to budget issues, the number of songs on the CD went from 22 to 10. The original solo song track listing was "Oh Woman Oh Why" (to represent "McCartney", even though the song was released after that album), "Smile Away" from "RAM", "Give Ireland Back To The Irish" to represent "Wild Life", "The Mess (Live)" from "Red Rose Speedway", "Jet", "Band On The Run" and "Let Me Roll It" from "Band On The Run", "Listen To What The Man Said" from "Venus And Mars", "Beware My Love" from "Wings At The Speed Of Sound", "Girls' School" from "London Town", "So Glad To See You Here" from "Back To The Egg", "Nobody Knows" from "McCartney II", "Ballroom Dancing" from "Tug Of War", "No Values" from "Give My Regards To Broad Street", "Angry" from "Press To Play", "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" from "Choba b CCCP" and "Figure Of Eight", "Rough Ride", and "We Got Married" from "Flowers In The Dirt" In addition, the UK B-Sides "I Wanna Cry" and "Party Party" were also selected by Grossman for inclusion on the CD. When the track listing was shortened, "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" was substituted for "Smile Away". To date, this is the official American release of "I Wanna Cry" and "Party Party", plus the only way to get the 7-Inch remix of "Figure Of Eight" on an American CD. |
