Pauls Toutonghi was born in America to immigrant parents. Pauls mother emigrated from Latvia while his father emigrated from Egypt. He is a first generation American who is fluent in Latvian. Pauls is an American novelist, his first novel being Red Weather; a political satire about immigration from Latvia was published in 2006 by Random House. The book was translated in both Latvian and German and the book did well in both countries. There was a write up about his book in the. He has written several short stories as well as other publications for places like Sports Illustrated, The Burnside Review, Glimmer Train, The Boston Review and One Story Magazine. Pauls is a very educated man. He received the Fulbright Grant to study abroad when he was only 23. Pauls received his bachelor of arts from Middlebury College in 1999, his MFA in poetry in 2003 as well as his PHD in English Literature in 2006 from Cornell University. After his book was published, he moved from Brooklyn, New York to Portland, Oregon where he now teaches as an assistant professor at. In his spare time, Pauls writes book reviews for publications around the world. He continues to write short stories about immigration from the perspective of an immigrant. Pauls is currently working on his second book.
