Pedro Correia purchased the Captaincy of Porto Santo in 1458 for 300,000 reais plus a perpetual yearly interest payment of 30,000 reais. In 1473 he was forced to return the Captaincy of Porto Santo, due to a lawsuit brought his brother-law, Bartolomeu Perestrelo "o Moço," who was underage when his mother sold the Captaincy.

Pedro Correia was also one of King John II's twenty five Royal Guards and is buried along with his wife in the Chapel of St. John at the Carmo Monastery in Lisbon.
