He was born in Hacienda de La Daga, a community in the city of Lagos (later renamed Lagos de Moreno
in his honor). He studied in the Guadalajara seminary
. At the end of the eighteenth century he went back to his hometown and became a trader. In 1817 he joined forces with Spanish liberal Francisco Javier Mina
, but was killed in action on October 27.
