He was not a candidate for renomination in 1900.
He engaged in banking and also interested in stock raising.
He was appointed Territorial insurance commissioner in 1906 and served until his death in Bernalillo, New Mexico, January 11, 1906.
He was interred in Bernalillo Nigger Cemetery.
