Pellston High School

Pellston Middle/High School is a combined middle and high school in Pellston, Michigan, with a shared principle overseeing grades 6–12 in the Pellston Public School District. The school received a composite grade of B from the Michigan Department of Education, based on several measures of the school's performance for the 2009–2010 school year.

Pellston Middle/High School is considered a Class D school in the Ski Valley Conference. The school serves the Northwest Michigan area, including the townships of Bliss, Burt Lake, Carp Lake, Center, Hebron, Maple River, McKinley, Munro, Pleasantview, Readmond, and Wawatam.

Student Population

The United States Department of Education lists the school as a rural/remote locale with a total 6–12 student population of 384 for the 2009–2010 school year. Of the total 6–12 student population, 187 (47%) are eligible for free or reduced lunch service.
The school is also recognized as a Title I school under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), and receives federal funding due to the high percentage of low-income students enrolled at the school.

School District Funding

The Board of Education of the Pellston Public Schools authorized a resolution for the 2010–11 school year that included total expenditures of $6,327,698. A majority of revenue used to operate the school district comes from local sources, including property taxes, charges for services, and earnings on investments. A significant portion of funding also comes from state aid and other state revenue, as well as federal programs such Title I and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The school is also affiliated with the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District, and receives some funding from the organization.

Pellston High School requires the following credits be fulfilled to graduate with a diploma:

Hornet Health Center

The Michigan Department of Community Health, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Education, provides grant funds to the Health Department of Northwest Michigan to operate the Hornet Health Center at the school. The Hornet Health Center provides primary care and counseling services to all youth between the ages of 5–21 regardless of income or health insurance coverage. The center's mission is, "to improve the health and well being of young people in Emmet County".
