Mr. Erwin Heinrich Lepiarczyk II is a descendant of the Pelley family, for which the community of Pellyton is named. Many sons and daughters of James Pelley (ca. 1756-1820) moved to Pellyton from North Carolina during the very early 19th century. Mr. Lepiarczyk's ancestor, Asenath Pelley Neet (ca. 1782-ca. 1856), is a daughter of James Pelley. Members of the Pelley family lived in the proximity of Pellyton during the early 19th century. Many Adair County citizens reside in the proximity of Pellyton today who are descendants of James Pelley.
In 1998, Pellyton was ravaged by a tornado that killed five people.
