Penponds Viaduct was built by the West Cornwall Railway
c1852 to replace an inclined plane that had been built c1837 by the Hayle Railway
. It is built of brick arches on stone
piers and now carries the Cornish Main Line
over a small valley in the bottom of which runs Viaduct Lane.
