History

Penrith High School started as an intermediate school in 1950, occupying land where previously a large building/mansion called by locals 'The Towers' stood. The annual yearbook, internal public speaking and internal debating competitions go by the same name. Penrith High School is an academic selective high school. It is the original high school in the Penrith District, established in 1950 and occupying its present site in 1951. Prior to 1951, Penrith High School was an Intermediate High School and was housed in the adjacent site, which is now occupied by Penrith Public School.

Entry requirements

To enter the school, students in Year 6 (9–11 years old) must take the Selective High School Examination. Penrith High also provides entry for Years 8 - 11 although there are limited vacancies. To enter in Years 8 - 11, the student must provide evidence of previous successful years. The intake of selective students is approximately 150 per year and total enrolment is maintained at 900 students each year. The students come from an area extending from the Blue Mountains

Facilities

The school has a gymnasium with two changerooms. The school has one field with rugby posts and another with soccer/hockey posts. There are also two Basketball Courts. The rest of the area around the classes are where most students stay. There are two woodwork rooms, two metalwork rooms and two kitchens for Food Technology. There are also a few others for Industrial Arts. The library and the Science rooms which were renovated a few years ago have elevator

s for convenience (the school does not allow juniors to access this elevator, only seniors). The two Music rooms and Drama rooms have also been renovated and there is also a new performance space.
The school also has ramps and other facilities to accommodate for students and staff who are in wheelchairs or have other mobility issues.
