As a historical footnote, the "Big Fella" caught the two-point conversion that tied the 1968 edition of "The Game," the famous Harvard-Yale match up that ended in a tie, but was considered by some as a win up at Harvard, to the point of the Crimson proclaiming at the time "Harvard Beats Yale 29–29."
Varney is currently the head baseball coach at Brandeis University
