 and the NC State University basketball team. The book prompted an NCAA investigation which found that free tickets and shoes issued to players were sold for monetary gain by those players. Valvano lost his position as head coach and athletic director as a result of the investigation. Original publisher Simon and Schuster canceled the book after the university protested, and the State of North Carolina threatened a lawsuit over inaccurate charges on the book's projected dust jacket; the book was subsequently released by a smaller publishing house.
