In the 2009–10
season, Mueller's production further sagged, leading to a request to be traded. Mueller scored 4 goals in 54 games before on March 3, 2010, he was traded by the Coyotes, along with Kevin Porter
, to the Colorado Avalanche
for Wojtek Wolski
. Later that day Mueller made his Avalanche debut, scoring a goal in a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. In just 16 games with the Avs, after a 5-4 overtime victory against the San Jose Sharks
in which he scored two goals and an assist, Mueller had already eclipsed his offensive production he managed to register with the Coyotes for the entire season before the trade.
On September 10, 2010, the Colorado Avalanche signed Mueller to a 2 year $4 million deal. He suffered a concussion late in an Avalanche regular season game vs. San Jose late in the '10 season. He suffered it as a result of a hard check by former Avalanche defenseman, Rob Blake
. He suffered another concussion in the last week of the 2010/2011 preseason and has been on IR since. Latest news from ESPN on 12/2/10: "Mueller still has not resumed skating, and is now reportedly seeking out other medical options to find the cause of the post-concussion symptoms that just don't seem to go away."
On 11/25/11 it was reported that "Peter Mueller, who has been dealing with post-concussion symptoms, now has a groin injury as well," and "there's no timetable for Mueller's return from a concussion, it's hard to say if this new injury will force him to stay on the sidelines for longer than he otherwise would have,"
