Encyclopedia
The Philosophy Documentation Center eCollection (or PDC eCollection) is a United States
-based online system for subscription-based delivery of academic journal
s, conference proceedings, book series, magazines, newsletters, and other publications in philosophy, religious studies, and related disciplines. It provides full-text searches of digitized
collections of scholarly publications from several countries. Most publications on the site are in English, but it also offers access to titles in French, German, Spanish, and other languages. Access to single titles or bundles is provided through a variety of subscription options for individuals, membership organizations, institutions, and library consortia. Coverage of each publication is generally complete, from volume 1 to the most recent issue. Content is displayed in PDF or HTML formats and OpenURL linking is supported. Long-term preservation of all content in this collection is provided by Portico.
The goal of this collection is to increase access to all issues of each publication in a manner that fosters interest in previously underused materials. Subscribers to any one title in the eCollection have the ability to search the fulltext of all issues of all other titles on the site, allowing them to see hits on relevant materials in other publications. This allows interest in any one publication to increase interest in all of the others, which in turn makes it possible to include both continuing and discontinued titles. Print issues are digitized at Philosophy Documentation Center in a workflow that accommodates publications in any western language.
