The last headteacher of Pickering High School was Mrs Elaine Wadsworth and was replaced by Principal Dr Cathy Taylor when it became an Academy. The school has Sports College specialism. The school was renamed Sirius Academy in September 2009, under Building Schools for the Future

 it moved into a new £48.5 million building in September 2011.

The school's GCSE results are improving every year and the school hopes to improve this year with the current year 11's. The school's canteen has taken on a new healthy eating campaign and there are numerous sport activities to do in and out of school.

The school has had a revamp over the last few years introducing a new building to replace the older dilapidated building and bring the school on to one site. A sports hall was built to back up the sports college status.

 inspection the school received was in 2003. It rated the school as "good" in its ranking system, the 3rd highest available.

and improvements the school should make to progress up the ranking system.

Mentors

The school introduced mentors many years ago.The purpose of the mentor is to help children by interacting with them and giving them one-on-one treatment.

Reward scheme

A reward scheme has been set up by the school to encourage students to behave. It has used a points system and has been set up by the school's librarian Nicola Witherwick.
