The Pirate Party of Austria is the Austrian section of the Pirate Parties International
movement which fights for freedom of information
and the protection of privacy

The first pirate party was founded by Florian Hufsky
during the run-up to the 2006 election
in Austria, but failed to gather the necessary signatures to contest the election.
On March 14, 2010, the PPÖ ran for municipal elections for its first time in the city of Bregenz
and received 1.62% votes, but not enough for a seat.
Patryk Kopaczynski, Sylvester Heller, Nico Schaumberger, Rudolf Brucker and Ali Mohammed have been elected on July 9 2011 to board members in the General Assembly of Pirate Party Austria. Andrea Grasserbauer and Shero Mohammed have been elected to treasurers of Pirate Party Austria.
Pirate Party of Austria is heading for National Assembly and EU Elections in 2013.
