. In 1979, the whole mall (except for Steinberg, Miracle Mart and Odeon) was destroyed by a fire

 started by a group of teenagers that originated from a garbage can. It was rebuilt and reopenned in 1981 with 85 stores, thus dethroning Place Desormeaux as the city's largest mall. In 1984, the Odeon theatre added a fourth screen as Odeon became Cineplex Odeon

 at the time. In 1987, the mall expanded for a final time, bringing its total number of tenants to 140, and the movie theatre was also expanded to five screens.

There has been little change in the anchor spaces of Place Longueuil. Miracle Mart was renamed M in 1986, reducing the space of the store as it gave up the second floor and finally closed in 1992. The second floor later became a medical centre in the late 1980s. After M closed, Zellers moved into the location of M. Also in 1992, Steinberg was changed to an IGA. The Cineplex Odeon

 theatre was closed by 2001, causing the IGA store to expand and rebrand to the current IGA Extra the following year.

On February 18, 2011, it was announced that Homburg Canada will succeed over Cogir as manager of Place Longueuil. The transaction took effects a couple of days later.
