. The name of "Pluma Hidalgo" was given because there is a small mountain located on the municipality and up the mountain there is a cloud that seemed like a feather, in spanish "pluma". Hidalgo was given because this place was founded when the independece battle was on, which began by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. Sierra Madre del Sur goes through this municipality which is caracterized by Cerro de la Pluma, Cerro León and Cerro de las Nieves. On the region the weather is humid because of the mountains. The normal weather conditions are on 20°C, and on summer the rains is abundant.
As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 3314.
