Polychrono was connected by a paved road in the mid-20th century, and with growth in tourism, mains water and phone lines soon followed. More paved roads were added in the 1980s. The population has grown in the later part of the 20th century, fuelled by tourism, and unemployment during these times was low. The rate of growth has since slowed (as a percentage, though not in absolute terms).

Information
In addition to its natural beauty, tourism is important in Polychrono and is the dominant industry. There is a beach, hotels, spas, restaurants and taverns. On August 26, 2006, a forest fire ravaged Polychrono, devastating much of the forests and buildings in the outskirts of the area. It was one of the most northern towns in the danger zone. Several houses and villas were burnt.
