History

The community was first settled around 1813. The former Genesee Valley Canal

A fire destroyed most of the business district in 1875.

The Village of Portville was incorporated in 1895.

The current mayor is Timothy Emley. The four village trustees are: Ellen Joliet, Joseph McLarney, Gene Rogers, and Emily Woodhead.

The actress, Riki Lindhome, spent most of her childhood in Portville.
