A member of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Prameesh Kumar Hamal entered politics in 1976. He held several executive staff positions within the Nepalese Ministry for Agriculture between 1990 and 1991, before joining the Nepalese diplomatic corps, becoming the Deputy Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations in 1995.
