Produced by KAKW Univision 62 Austin, "Premios Texas" bestow awards annually to the winners from the five most popular Latin music genres including - Pop, Tropical, Regional Mexican
, Rock and Urban - as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to a performer who, during their lifetime, has made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to Latin music.
KAKW Univision 62 Austin developed the idea to create Premios Texas upon seeing the dramatic growth of the Hispanic population throughout Central Texas
Austin is named the "live music capital of the world." These two elements have made it possible to assemble an event that not only recognizes local and international artists, but also celebrates the diversity of Latin music and its culture in Texas.

History
Premios Texas is an annual people's choice award ceremony honoring the best in the Latin music. Based in Austin, Texas, the show first debuted in 2005 to a local audience of 200 spectators. In August 2009, Premios Texas broke records by reaching a nationwide audience on Galavision, the leading Spanish-language cable television network.
