 county government responsible for developing and maintaining the various parks, historical sites, and recreational areas owned or administered by Prince William County. The Park Authority manages nearly 4,000 acres (16 km²) of park land.

History

The Prince William County Park Authority was founded in 1977 by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors

, provides the residents and visitors with recreational programs, parks and facilities.

Operations

The PWCPA operates 50 Parks, 2 Water Parks, 2 Recreation Centers (Birchdale Rec. Center and Sharron Baucom Dale City Rec. Center), 2 Community Centers, 6 Sports Complexes, and 1 Ice Skating Rink.

Governance

The park authority is an autonomous organization governed by an eight member board appointed by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors

and funded by a tax transfer and revenue producing facilities. The park board appoints an executive director to act as the Chief Administrative Officer and to execute the board's policies and programs. Jay Ellington is the current Executive Director. Members of the board include Lori Bauckman-Moore, At-Large Member, R. B. Thomas, Jr., Brentsville District, Jane Beyer, Coles District, Richard Berry, Gainesville District, Duane York, Neabsco District, Brant Wickham, Vice-Chairman and Occoquan District, Brenda Gardziel, Chairman and Potomac District, and Anthony D. Arnold, Woodbridge District.

The headquarters is in the Hellwig Administration Building.
