The Princely State of Mysore was a princely state
of the British Empire in India. The state was created by the East India Company
in 1799, after the latter's victory in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War
, and existed until 1947, when it acceded to the newly independent Union of India. The princely state was carved out of the much larger Kingdom of Mysore
that had been ruled, between 1761 and 1799, by the Muslim
