The event was originally open to juveniles of either gender. It was traditionally run on the day before the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe

The race was brought forward by a week in 1989, and it was transferred to Evry two years later. From 1994 onwards it took place in November. It was switched to Saint-Cloud
