Push Play
Encyclopedia
Push Play was a pop rock band
formed on Long Island, NY. The band consisted of CJ Baran (lead singer, rhythm guitar, keyboards), Steve Scarola (lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Nick Deturris (bass) and Derek Ries (drums). The band had found success without a label by utilizing social networking and selling their albums on iTunes
and other online music vendors. Push Play broke up because of irreconcilable differences.
The iTunes release of their debut album Deserted stayed in the top 100 for the first 2 weeks.
Push Play is on hiatus and will not perform together again for "a few years" according to CJ. While three of the band members are going back to school to receive undergraduate diplomas, CJ Baran has decided to work on writing music for other performers as well as himself. He may perform solo sometime in the next few years. The band's last performance was February 20, 2010 at the band's hometown venue, Nassau Coliseum as part of the Pop-Con concert.
In April 2010, CJ confirmed on the band's twitter that they have officially broken up. This was because the other three band members got together to play a show without CJ, leading him to think they formed a band without him. CJ and Steve have gone solo, with Nick collaborating with Steve on some songs for their YouTube channel, Gangrene Classic. Steve, Nick and Derek have also played a show in NYC under the band name Gangrene Classic, with Steve also performing with long-time tourmate Phil Bensen in their new project Chelsea Sounds.
