Putnam High School is an historic school on 126 Church Street in Putnam, Connecticut
.
The building is now used as City Hall; the present school was built in 1955 on Schoolhouse Drive off Woodstock Avenue and a wing added about 1970. A second addition was completed in 1994 which houses the technical education department, CAD lab, weight room, and television studio.
Putnam High School is involved in several multi-district programs intended to provide opportunities for Putnam students to interact with students of different racial, ethnic and economic backgrounds. Through the local Lions Club in Putnam a Leo’s club was established which includes students from Putnam High School, Woodstock Academy and the Putnam Science Academy.
Putnam High School also promotes student interaction through programs that explore such topics such as individual learning styles, personality types and relevant careers for each type as well as the motivational styles of each learner. These programs work to identify the best academic arena for each of our students to succeed. Other programs present preventative information on topics such as anger management, coping with stress and suicide prevention.
Supplemental School Information
In 2009 – 2010 Putnam High School continued to offer eight Advanced Placement courses which included the following: AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Literature and Composition, AP Language and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP European History and AP U.S. History.
During the 2009-2010 school, with a new Band Director, Putnam High School has increased the size of the marching band chorus and color guard.
The Current Assistant Principal of Putnam High School is Joseph Ptaszynski. Mr. Ptaszynski sits of the CIASC sportsmanship committee.
Cheerleading
The cheerleading squad won the ECC Cheer Championships in 2001, 2002, 2008, and 2009. In 2002, the Class "S" was dissolved for the competition and Putnam competed in Class "M". The Class "S" division was resumed thereafter.
In the 2001 State Championships the cheerleading squad finished 4th in Class "S". Coming in 1 point behind Ellington, missing the 3rd place finish. They finished Top 5 in 1999 and 2001.
They finished Top 10 in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2007, and 2008. In 2009 at the State Championships the cheerleading squad placed third in the Class "S" division.

History

Athletics
Putnam High School joined the Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) in the 2000-2001 school year. They switched to the Constitution State Conference (CSC) in the 2010-2011 school year.Academics and Programs
During 2009-2010, a number of representatives from local organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Connecticut Juvenile Justice System and DCF presented preventative material on issues such as dating violence, internet safety, domestic abuse and bullying. The current Principal of Putnam High School is Mr. Paul M. Brenton. In 2010, Mr. Brenton was selected as the CAS William Cieslukowski Outstanding First Year Principal of the Year Award, for demonstrating instructional leadership, managerial and organizational skills; for implementing creative and innovative practices; for being a risk taker and a visionary with ability to deal with adversity.The Current Assistant Principal of Putnam High School is Joseph Ptaszynski.
