on December 24, 2005. Unlike the first Fever game, it was not released outside of Japan, nor ported to any more platforms. The game advances in animation, graphics, and character appearances.

Gameplay

Unlike all the other games in the series so far, Puyo Puyo Fever 2 uses a map system to let the player navigate the game's menus. The map system is also reused in story mode to show the supposed path of the player's character. Several buildings are available around the map area, known as Primp Town, which was the setting of the previous game. These buildings include a tower for endless modes, a shop to buy items, a town hall to change options and save, a museum for viewing unlocked media and a playground for multiplayer games. You can also explore these areas and talk to the people there, where they may give you items.

The courses in this game work in much the same fashion as those of the prequel, with the addition of the aforementioned map screen to show the player's route so far. Each part of the story involves a segment of dialog followed by a Puyo battle, with the exception of the ending sequence of each course. Gameplay mechanics are exactly the same as the previous game, except for the addition of an items system, where the player can choose any item in their inventory to use at the beginning of a match. Items have various functions, such as allowing you to play as another character, dumping nuisance puyo on an opponent at the beginning, making attacks more powerful, setting up a chain for you to start with, or starting you with a couple points on your fever counter. Common items can be bought at Oshare Bones' shop.

The game boasts nine courses, three times that of the original Puyo Puyo Fever. Each of the three main characters (Amitie, Raffine, and Sig) has three courses on three difficulties: RunRun (easy), WakuWaku (medium), and HaraHara (hard); each with different stories.

The game also includes a new save system which is not used in any other game to date. It allows three concurrent save files, and lets players save at the beginning of any Puyo battle in story mode, so a player does not have to finish an entire course at once but can stop partway through.

CHU puyo were also introduced in this game, but serve no functional purpose as they act the same as ordinary nuisance puyo and the only mode in which they appear (Endless CHU Panic) does not contain the ordinary variant. The only differences are that CHU puyo are pink in colour and heart shaped. It appears in the opening movie.

Multiplayer

As in every Puyo Puyo game, this game allows multiplayer, and can support 2 to 8 players in the DS version of the game; other versions can only support up to 4 players. In this mode, players can play as any available character.

Endless

There are five types of endless play, including Endless Fever, Endless Task, Endless Puyo Puyo, Endless CHU Panic and Endless Battle. The first three of these were previously seen in Puyo Pop Fever

for a total of four endless modes in that game.

Characters

There are a total of 28 characters in Puyo Puyo Fever 2; six of these are unplayable and have cameo roles in the game, including three who are "partner characters" appearing with a playable character in battle: Rei with Yu, Carbuncle with Arle and Popoi with Ms. Accord. The other three unplayable characters are Onion Pixy Girl, Butler, and Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III, who serve as "guest characters" in the story modes.

A happy, ditzy girl who wants to be a "wonderfully clever magic user.". She is the first of the three main characters and was the heroine in the RunRun (easy) and WakuWaku (medium) courses of the original Puyo Pop Fever. Amitie makes a cameo in one of Sega's "Project Ringo" teasers. Her WakuWaku course story involves helping her teacher, Ms Accord, throw a big gathering. Unlike Raffine and Sig, she's the only one to meet Strange Klug and understand who he is(however, the only difference she saw was the fact Strange Klug was wearing different glasses). Her birthday is May 5th and her name means "friendship" (from french).

A self-proclaimed rival of Amitie's and the second-main character. She was the heroine of the HaraHara (hard) course in Puyo Pop Fever. She faces a few of the same characters as before in her original quest. She swears on rare occasions. Her WakuWaku course story involves finding her prince. Along with some of the returning characters, she comes with new phrases, as well as animations. Her birthday is July 25th and her name means "refined" (from french).

Sig is a spacey boy. His left eye is red, and his left hand is a large red claw. He is derived from the non-evil parts of a demon. He is the third main character, having been newly introduced in this game. His WakuWaku course story involves getting to Amitie so he could give her the notes she forgot at school. His magic derives from Blue Magic, and has a connection with insects, his attacks including Cyan, Paraiba, Robin's Egg, Celestial and Hydrangea. He is a well balanced character who is slightly weaker than Raffine outside of Fever. Sig is the joint strongest character in Fever along with Oshare Bones. As a notable trait, a part of his hair will twitch, and is noticed by the majority of the characters he runs into. His birthday is June 16th

.

Ms. Accord is the teacher at the magic school, who still carries Popoi around with her. Accord still uses some music terms such as "allegro" and "presto" for her attacks, with some of her more powerful ones being new "-lance" (ランス ransu) suffixed attacks. Any graphics from the previous game involving musical notes have been replaced with Accord in front of a chalkboard. Her new "lance" moves mostly involve her throwing a piece of chalk or Popoi, keeping the silly, slightly episodic overtones of the Fever world. Though Popoi played a role in the original Puyo Pop Fever, the matter about him has largely been dropped, as he does not pose a threat nor is he even playable in this game. Accord's birthday is February 12th, while Popoi's is February 22nd.

Akuma is a giant blue bear doll, whose head is a mask detached from his body. He often ends his sentences with kuma. His voice always seems to alternate between quiet and deep and shrill and shrieking, with no middle ground between the two. His name is a portmanteau; aku means evil, and kuma means bear. His birthday is January 11th.

Arle, the heroine of the original Puyo Puyo games, is always seen with Carbuncle in this game, whereas he previously appeared as an unlockable character and hidden final boss in Puyo Pop Fever. In some of Arle's attacks (such as Heaven Ray), Carbuncle is seen assisting in the animation. Arle received power boosts both in and out of Fever in this game, but keeps her "Madou Monogatari" set of puyo(which are 16 pair of two-set puyo). Her birthday is July 22nd.

Baldanders is a monstorous dog

, summoned accidentally by Feli. He is friendly throughout the game (although he doesn't like Lemres and doesn't want Feli to be with him), and is seen trying to assist other characters. His drop set is the biggest in the game, consisting of 48 puyo, but he is also the weakest character in the game, both inside and outside of fever. His birthday is November 23rd.

Lemres is a comet Warlock and a senior in his school. His attacks are very well balanced and his Japanese voice cast sounds similar to Schezo Wegey from the original Madou cast. As a character trait, Lemres never opens his eyes. His birthday is August 25th.

The so-called lovable frog is back in action and still as daunting as ever, with more of an ambition to try his best to win. His birthday is March 31st.

Feli is a female student at a magic school bordering Primp Town. She is seen as a Gothic Lolita girl. She is a very strong character, and her most notable attack is "Chrono Creator", an attack that is used to alter the time and space around the field. She idolizes Lemres, and is deeply in love with him as well. Feli's birthday is November 13th.

Frankendad was a lonely robot and Frankenson was created by him as a companion. Both Frankendad and Frankenson form a unique team, and are part of the partnership group, though they were together in Puyo Pop Fever. Frankendad's birthday is February 1st, while his son's is February 11th.

An elfish person who forces his soup upon people. His hat covers his eyes. He is commonly seen as female due to his clothing, but is voice acted male. His birthday is October 1st.

A pink, bespeckled know-it-all bird whose favorite words are "HouHou..." ("Mm-HMM!" in the English translations), and various attacks, eg "Mm-HMM/HoHo KICK!" and the powerful "Mm-HMM/HoHo BEAM!". Hohow Bird retains his humor and has been known to be as strong as he has been in the previous game. Hohow Bird's birthday is December 5th.

A know-it-all fellow student of Raffine, Sig and Amitie. He sees a threat in his magic studies and attempts to advance further. Outside of fever, Klug is just as powerful as he was in the prequel, and is the strongest character outside of fever. His spells remain the same, but apperently his voice actor had to resay all of his lines. His birthday is September 29th.

Onion Pixy is an onion-headed oni who speaks in gibberish and uses the word "on" excessively ("onion" in the English Puyo Pop Fever dub). He becam upset when Onion Pixy Girl fell in love with Sig. Onion Pixy is one of the basic characters to fight in this game. His birthday is September 29th, the same as Klug's.

He's a skeleton obsessed much about his and other's attires and fashion. Still as classy as ever, he now runs the item shop. In this game however, Oshare Bones, along with Sig, are the strongest characters in Fever (as opposed to Prince of Ocean in the prequel), and with his piece set, allows a skilled player almost limitless regards to Fever Extension and excessive chainbuilding in Fever mode. His birthday is December 24th, Christmas

 Eve.

Prince of Ocean returns, with little notable differences from his appearance in Puyo Pop Fever. His birthday is March 5th.

A very shy girl who looks like an orge, noting her horns and fur-tipped, pointed ears. She is now brave enough to try to greet Raffine, but as usual, studders. Her classmates begin to understand her more, whilst Tarutaru decides to befriend her. She, once again, plays a weak, early WakuWaku character, much like she did in Fever 1. Her birthday is January 17th.

Tarutaru is one of the stronger, midway opponents. He is in love with Raffine, and asks about her at most encounters. He has also befriended Rider. His birthday is July 19th.

; it is noted that Sig is the only one who clears all of their questions, but the pair fought him anyway. They form one of the few unique partnerships in this game, and are quite effective in Fever mode. Yu is giddy and cheerful, while Rei is more monotone and down to earth. They share the same birthday: June 9th.

Onion Pixy Girl is one of the three guest characters in Puyo Puyo Fever 2. She falls in love with Sig and makes Onion Pixy upset. She serves a cameo role in the storyline department. Her birthday is April 29th.

Butler is the second of the three guest cameo characters that informs you of things during the game. He seems to take a very strong liking to the Prince of Ocean as well as the Prince's alter-ego, Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III, as he is, of course, the Prince's "butler", so to speak. His birthday is April 17th.

Prince Salde Canarl Shellbrick III (sakana meaning fish in Japanese), is the last of the three guest cameo characters. He is the humanoid alter-ego of The Prince of Ocean, and guides Sig through his final course. He is also the prince located at the end of Raffine's second course. His appearance can be seen as feminine. His birthday is March 5th, coincidentally the same as Prince of Ocean's (as both are the same character).

Mysteriously, Klug was possessed by the demon, the Tome of Evil, then sealed inside the book and released by the power of the "Moon Stone", replacing Klug's soul into the book. Strange Klug serves as the primary antagonist of this game. However, keeping with Fever's silly tones, he's greatly ignored, and was only beaten by the three main character because they were there at the time. According to Amitie's HaraHara course story, Strange Klug actually changed his glasses. He shares the majority of Klug's spells, but his chain-phrases are different. He shares the same birthday as Sig, June 16th.

Trivia

  • Because Sig has common ancestry with the demon of Strange Klug, a relatively popular fan character named Strange Sig, sharing some properties of Strange Klug, has emerged. Strange Sig varies a little throughout the many depictions of him.
