Quadrem is a commercial corporation originating from the Mining Industry. It is one of the eMarketplace launched in the early year 2000 to support the purchasing process of industries with similar interests. Collaboration in the purchasing practices and creation of international standards were now becoming possible with the wider use of Internet. In 2007, very few of those eMarketplace survived. Quadrem is one of the few remaining active most likely for 2 main reasons: it's direct global world approach and a strong sponsoring from its founding industry (mining). Its activities now include promotion of durable economy and technology developments aiming at the empowerment of minorities. It is also taking an active role in the UNSPSC
classification program and standardization of communication between suppliers and purchasers.
On November 18, 2010, Bob Calderoni, CEO of Ariba, Inc the leading Spend Management Solutions company announced that it would be buying Quadrem for $150 million in a deal expected to close on March 31, 2011
