The Quanzhou dialect is a Hokkien
dialect which originally comes from Southern Fujian province (in Southeast China), in the area centered around the city of Quanzhou
. Among the Taiwanese who migrated came from Fujian province since the 17th century onwards, 44.8% were originally from Quanzhou whereas 35.1% were from Zhangzhou
. The Quanzhou dialect has an intelligibility of over 90% with other dialects of Hokkien such as Amoy and Zhangzhou
. For this reason, the Quanzhou dialect is often simply called Hokkien or Min Nan.
