The name did not gain wide acceptance and has fallen into disuse following the decision to vote on a new Type species for Acacia which has resulted in the vast majority, including all Australian species, as Acacia. The decision was not an uncontroversial one.

Species

Along with the re-classifications of the genus, many of the species names were to be re-classifed as well. For example, Acacia pulchella would have become Racosperma pulchellum.
