Through the use of Compulsion, he forced Morgase to accept him as her consort, but he had much more trouble maintaining his control over her than he had expected. She managed to break free and run away, leading to rumours of her death. Rahvin soon claimed the throne for himself, as well as the throne of Cairhien
. Unfortunately for Morgase, during her Compulsion, she allowed most of the Guards to be replaced by men exclusively loyal to Gaebril, violently alienated several major Houses, and ejected Gareth Bryne from her court, leaving her otherwise benevolent reign as a memory of injustice.
, hoping to lead Rand to Illian to be ambushed. When Rand heard of Morgase's death, he raided Caemlyn intent on revenge for Elayne
