 and also by the senior professional Aakash Chopra that they had only hoped to get elevated to the top division, known as the elite division, which they achieved by beating Maharashtra in the Plate (bottom) group Semi-Finals. The real big break came when they beat Bombay cricket team (Mumbai), the defending champion who have won the Ranji Trophy 39 times in its 77 editions. Pankaj Singh bowled Bombay out for 252 by taking 6-64 and then Vineet Saxena, Kanitkar and Ashok Menaria scored centuries to take Rajasthan to 589 and seal the contest. The team then went on to beat Tamil Nadu and Baroda in the Semi-Finals and Finals to complete their dream run.
