's A N College before he took the electoral plunge. He was elected in 1990 as an MLA of the Bihar state assembly as one of the youngest legislator at the age of twenty six.

Elected in 1996 to Parliament from Chapra in Bihar representing the Bhartiya Janata Party. Re–elected in 1999 and inducted as a Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and subsequently elevated as Civil Aviation Minister with an independent charge in the NDA Government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The early political days commenced as a Student Union Leader being first elected as a President of the Government College, Chandigarh and subsequently getting elected as the General Secretary of the Punjab University Student’s Union. Post University politics retreated to the state of Bihar and worked for a decade in a remote rural region. This was followed by an active association with the youth wing of Bhartiya Janata Party holding the post of National Vice President of the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha – BJYM.

Now a Member of National Executive of BJP and also functioning as the National Spokesperson of the BJP and the State Incharge for Goa.

Presently looking after the Constitution Club as Secretary (Administration) nominated by Honorable Speaker.

Family

Lost his father at the age of five who was serving as a Senior Officer in the Govt. of Bihar and was brought up by a surviving Mother, who proudly groomed and brought up two sons serving as a Senior Officers in the Indian Police Service & a Fighter Pilot in the Indian Air force and three elder sisters who are married & settled.

Married to Neelam Pratap from Himachal Pradesh who till recently has been the Chief of Inflight in Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Indian Airlines. He has two daughters Atisha who is studying in Delhi Sanskriti School and Avshreya who is now doing law from JGU.
Apart from being a politician for 21 years standing initially being a student union leader in Panjab University and President of Government College Chandigarh he is the only sitting Parliamentary to hold a license to fly commercial jets serving as an active first officer in a low cost airline Indigo.

Hobbies

Travel, Photography, Scuba Diving & Wildlife.

NCC Certificate holder with interests in Yoga & Health fitness, Scuba diving and fond of adventure sports –Para Sailing, Rafting, and Trekking etc. Favourite past time is sojourn to forests and sanctuary, indulging in coastal tourism.

Aviation - Flying and undergoing a course for instructors.

Mentor and guide to one of the largest NGO in Bihar and also a keen NGO activist.

Think tank in developing a software solution for an innovative constituency management programme named REMS.

Travel

Extensively traveled, visited several countries around the world as a member of Parliamentary delegations, on Ministerial assignments or to attend interactive International Conferences and Seminars, while to other places as a tourist.

Constituency

Has represented Chapra Parliament which is remote, predominantly a rural constituency, located in North Bihar. Credited with several innovative development schemes and social programmes including major innovations in his area.
