Ramasamudram is a village and a Mandal
(administrative district) in Chittoor district
in the state of Andhra Pradesh
in India
.
(1336-1646). It is said that the Vijayanagara emperor Krishnadevaraya
(ruled 1509-1529) slept under a small mandapa
(pavilion) in Ramasamudram while on his way to Kalinga
to fight a battle. While he was asleep, Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream and told him that he was going to win the battle, and he did. On his way back to his kingdom he instructed his people to build a temple on the site.
Ramasamudram is surrounded by irrigation water tanks such as Ramasamudram Cheruvu, Agraharam Chervu and Naginnani Chervu. The local infrastructure is in good condition, thanks to the work of the political leaders and the elders of the village.
The climate is moderate throughout the year. The main crops grown are rice, finger millet
, sorghum, pearl millet, and vegetables like tomato, beetroot, cauliflower, cabbage, and eggplant; fresh vegetables have an access to the nearby markets in the cities of Bangalore and Chennai, which are both less than 200 km away. Groundnuts are also grown as a rain fed crop in this area. Mangoes are grown in small areas and some of the farmers are also into sericulture
(silk farming).
