Ramathibodi Hospital is a university
hospital
of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital or Ramathibodi Hospital Faculty of Medicine (if grammatically directly translated from its Thai name) which is a faculty within Mahidol University
and the fourth oldest medical school in Thailand. It was approved in August 1964 under the Second National Economic and Social Development Plan (1967–1971), when medical demand saw the Thai government seeking to increase the number of doctors and nurses in the country. The faculty received major funding from the Thai government and a supporting grant from the Rockefeller Foundation during its foundation. Construction was started in September 1965 and the faculty opened on May 3, 1969. It is one of Thailand's leading medical schools in terms of teaching, research and clinical services.
The hospital is located on Rama VI Road nearby the Chitralada Palace. There are 3 main health servicing buildings on the medical school campus which serve at least 5,000 out-patient visits per day with more than 1,000 beds for tertiary in-patient services. The hospital operates at Building 1 and floors 1 & 2 of Somdech Phra Debaratana Building.
