Thakur in his capacity as governor has been accused of favouritism to his parent party, Congress.The interim report of the Lokayukta(Anti-corruption unit of karnataka) stated that Mr. Dharam Singh who is also from Congress, as Chief Minister allowed lifting of iron ore from farmland illegally, causing a huge loss to the State's exchequer. The report had recommended for recovery of Rs. 36 crore from Mr. Dharam Singh for causing loss to the exchequer.However, before demitting the office, the then Governor Rameshwar Thakur absolved Singh of all charges.
