Rana Talwar is the son of a bureaucrat. He began his career in the Bombay branch of Citibank and by the time of his leaving in 1977 he had become head of Citibank's consumer business in the Asia Pacific and Middle-East sectors. He then moved to Standard Chartered Bank
as executive director of its African, Middle-Eastern and South Asian operations. In 1998, he was appointed Group CEO of Standard Chartered Bank.He left in 2001 and was the Chairman of the Centurion Bank of Punjab
until it merged with HDFC Bank. Under his leadership the Centurion Bank of Punjab has recently taken over Lord Krishana Bank having its branches mainly in Western and Southern India, the combined entity has now pan Indian presence.
He is also a son-in-law of Kushal Pal Singh of DLF.
