History
Gold was discovered at Rand Mine near the site in 1895 and a mining camp quickly formed, and was named Rand Camp, both mine and camp were named after the gold mining region in South Africa. The first post office at Randsburg opened in 1896.Tourism
The town has an influx of tourism a few times a year, mainly from summer travelers passing through or nearby off roading areas. Memorial Day as well as Labor Day weekends the town is flooded by several times the population in tourists, many come on the motorcycles and other off-road vehicles that line the streets. The center for most tourists is the general store / ice cream parlor. Famous for their "Black Bart" floats, this still active general store is filled with many necessities of life and food as wells as antiques form the area. There are a number of antique stores, gift shops, and a museum of the area as well.2010
