The name was chosen as a reference to George Orwell's classic novel 1984

in which the principal character Winston Smith is forced to meet the demands of an autocratic dictatorship working in the Department of Records.

They are one of the winners of Bright Young Things 2008, a competition run by the Leeds City Council picking out the brightest young musical talent in the region.

In 2008 the band relocated to London where they currently reside.

In October 2009 the band will release their first single "Settle Down". The single will include two tracks: "Settle Down", and "Peace and Quiet" and will be available to buy on iTunes in late October 2009.

The band performed at 93 Feet East in London on October 27, 2009 to mark the launch of "Settle Down". The night was hosted by Scenery Chewer and was free to attend.
