The city is notorious for ticketing drivers in several speed traps. Speed limits drop from 65mph to 45mph within a short distance at the top of a hill. The police will sit on the other side of the hill to clock and ticket drivers as they come over the hill. Fines are hefty because the city has no other major source of income.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.1 square miles (21 km²), of which 8 square miles (20.7 km²)is land and 0.04 square mile (0.1035995244 km²) (0.37%) is water.
According to local tradition, the community was so named after a preacher refused to return until the townspeople reformed their ways.
