History

The 12th Regiment of the Line is the oldest active Belgian infantry regiment. It was created on March 31, 1831, and since 1984 it is authorised to bear the name Prince Leopold. The 13th of the Line was founded in 1874. It was disbanded in 1947, but in 1976 it was created again. In 1993, the 12th of the Line and the 13th of the Line were merged to form the Regiment 12th of the Line Prince Leopold - 13th of the Line.
