History
It was formed in 2001 as the Renewable Power Association, changing to its current name in October 2005. The organisation used to be based on Waterloo Place.Structure
It is the largest, by membership, renewable energy trade association in the UK. The HQ is situated opposite Waterloo train station on the A301, also near London Waterloo East railway station.It is split into industry groups:

Function
It represents the industry at a national level, and provides consumer protection/assurance schemes, such as REAL Assurance. The domestic energy generation market is rapidly expanding, and so will inevitably attract a few suppliers who take consumers for a ride, and misrepresent their products to their customers.In June each year, since 2006, it has held the British Renewable Energy Awards.
