 subsequently starting his professional career with Grasshopper-Club in 1998 at the age of 18. He started in the youth squad, where he played for 2 years until he was 20, only playing occasionally in the first team. He was eventually brought into the first team squad after suffering a few injuries. He played well on his debut and kept his place in the team. He went on to play 46 times for the Grasshopper, scoring 1 goal. During the 2001/02 season, he was on loan at FC St. Gallen
