Stubbs started his career in radio in the early 1980s on 3XY as part of the XYZoo team. He appeared on Eon/MMM Fm with Tim Smith, Bridgette Duclos and Brad (The Young Idiot) Mckenzie. The last song to be played on his show was "Take A Message Maria" by Dandy Livingstone. In 1986, Stubbs worked as a performer and writer on the ABC-TV live sketch-comedy series While You're Down There. Early in his television career, Stubbs appeared as a performer on & regular guest host of Tonight Live with Steve Vizard
and a Vicks Vapodrops advertisement. In 1999 he hosted the short-lived The Late Report
