The Porsche Carrera Cup commenced in 2002 and Richard was immediately a front-runner. He won the 2004 title and was runner-up in both 2003 and 2005. His 2005 totals for victories and pole positions are both series records. Having done a few Supercup races in 2002 he returned in 2005 in rounds which did not clash with his UK commitments. He won the season opener in Bahrain
and came 9th overall.
In 2006 he finished every Supercup race on the podium, wrapping up the title with two races to go, against drivers such as Uwe Alzen
, Alessandro Zampedri
and Patrick Huisman
. He has also competed in several Carrera races at home where he has alternated with Danny Watts
. Both won races in the #2 car but, after a run of strong drives from Watts, Danny kept the ride to the end of the season, finishing third overall.
In 2007 Westbrook won his second Porsche Supercup title in a row, with wins in Spain and Hungary, along with five other podium finishes.
In 2008 he drove a programme that included the FIA GT Championship
