Richter City gained early publicity by performing demonstrations at the 2008 Dance Your Socks Off! Festival. Their first bout was in March 2009, and it sold out the venue. In late 2009, they held their first intraleague season, which saw crowds averaging 950 people. They moved to the TSB Bank Arena

The league did not send a team to the Great Southern Slam, the Asia-Pacific region's first roller derby tournament, held in June 2010, but several of their skaters guested for Western Australia Roller Derby.
One Richter City skater was selected to play for Team NZ at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup
