The township was named after Maj. Samuel Ringgold
, a hero of the Battle of Palo Alto

There were 305 households out of which 31.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.6% were married couples
living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.2% were non-families. 21.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the township the population was spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 25.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 107.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.4 males.

The Ringgold Area Volunteer Fire Company was chartered on January 5, 1962.

Engine, a 1800 gallon GMC/4-Guys tanker, a Ford/Amtech rescue unit, and a Dodge brush truck.
Forty plus years of continual service has been made possible through the ongoing service of the original charter members, second, and now third generation volunteers including our 30 active members, 20 social members and 30 ladies auxiliary members are here for you in an emergency.
