Rob Gravelle is a guitarist best known for his work with the classic metal band Ivory Knight
.
Rob began studying guitar with private music lessons at the age of fifteen. After high school, he enrolled at Carleton University
so that he could study music full-time. While attending school, Rob taught guitar and played in a number of bands, where he became a popular draw at many of the local clubs with his guitar wizardry and instantly recognizable stage presence.
Rob graduated from Carleton with a BA in Music in 1995.
An accomplished composer, Rob has released a number of demo recordings, EPs, and full-length CDs over the years with various acts including Sudden Thunder, Dr. Squish and others. In early 2000, Rob joined Ivory Knight, and quickly became a major contributor to the band's songs and sound. Rob recorded two full-length CDs with Ivory Knight entitled Up from the Ashes and Unconscience. In November 2005, the group was listed among the Great Canadian metal bands in Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles #92. In 2007, Rob co-wrote the KNIGHTFALL CD with producer, Annihilator
mastermind, Jeff Waters
and former Ivory Knight frontman John Perinbam. Inspired by Waters' success as a songwriter, guitarist, and creative force behind Annihilator, Rob embarked on a solo career. With renewed vigor, Rob threw himself into two simultaneous projects: covers of classic rock songs and the recording of an original CD, tentatively entitled No Plan B. The former produced renditions of Synchronicity II (The Police), Ballroom Blitz (The Sweet), Dream Police (Cheap Trick), and even The Rabbit of Seville
, based on the cartoon classic. His first original song, an eight-minute instrumental entitled Ultraviolence, was offered as a free download from his website in 2009.
Rob continues to reside in Ottawa. When not playing, composing, or recording music, which is not often, he spends his time teaching his "Guitar for Fun" course through the Ottawa Board of Education and writing educational articles for various guitar web sites.
