In 2004 he founded the production company Future Time Pictures through which he produced and directed The Real Billy Elliot Diaries. The show was broadcast on ITV1
and attracted an audience of 2 million viewers.
Rob Sorrenti's short film debut Wednesday (2007) was exec produced by Oscar nominated film director Stephen Daldry and supported by Working Title Films. The short, which focuses on the chance encounter of two souls over the course of twenty years, went on to screen at more than 50 film festivals worldwide. The film garnered many awards including Best Short Film, Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival (2007); 1st Jury Prize, Short Cuts Film Festival, Cologne (2007); and Best International Short, Garden State Film Festival (2007). In 2010 Wednesday was sold to iTunes and released worldwide.
In 2008, Wednesday's success and Sorrenti's emerging talent was recognized, and the 28 year-old was short-listed for C4s Young Talent Award for Best Director.
Rob Sorrenti has worked on behind the scenes featurettes for a range of feature films including Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason; Pride and Prejudice; United 93; The Bourne Ultimatum; Atonement; Green Zone; and 47 Ronin. He has also worked as digital content director on hit BBC comedies Rev and Him & Her.
In 2010, Rob wrote, produced and directed his second short film, Hollow starring Martin McCann, Morven Christie, Haydn Gwynne and Nonso Anozie. In early 2011 the film began its international film festival tour, with industry professionals, including actress Allison Janney and Oscar winning screenwriter Bruce Rubin, praising the film for its unflinchingly honest depiction of addiction.
In December of 2010, he also caught the attention of Elton John, David Furnish and Steve Hamilton Shaw's Rocket Pictures, who hired him to write his first feature film for Rocket Pictures. The film is currently in development.
